about

About this album ? I let my great friend Mathieu Demange talk:

Please, allow me to tell a story.

Somewhere in September 2012, for no reason, I stumbled upon Ubiktune, a netlabel specialized in chiptune music. At that time, I was learning how to control real genuine sound chips from the Sega Megadrive and building some electronic sketches to be able to play those chips via MIDI. The first time I visited Ubiktune's website, I clicked for no reason on their latest release: "Rhythm'n'bits" by Yoann Turpin. I fell in love within the first ten seconds of music playing. This album became my best company while I was going thru a difficult time of my life (losing my beloved grandpa to uncurable cancer). I listened to it more than I can remember. And, for no reason, I imagined Yoann could be from any country but France. Until I checked that out... weeks later. "Wait, he's French? He's French!", I said out loud while searching the web. So, for no reason, I typed his name on Facebook. And, for no reason, I invited him. And, for no reason, he accepted! Me, perfect stranger, but greatest fan already. I want to thank luck for all this! Because now, I was able to talk to him. So I didn't! Instead, I rigged my latest MIDI synth prototype, based on the sound chip from the Sega Master System, played the melody over Taikonaut's Love from Rhythm'n'bits in a video, and sent it to him. He loved the tribute and the electronic thing intrigued him. I didn't want to show any ability at all, instead, this was the best time in my whole life I acted so desperately hard to be sure the artist would hear a fan. I think I succeed. A few days later, my wife and I were having him for dinner. The story began. From there on, he had become more than a friend, and a true musical brother. After many collaborations, and so much joy working or simply be together, I'm moved to be responsible for the mixing and mastering of this new Rhythm'n'bits 2 release (that and the crazy remix at the end, by the way). It's a tribute to that story. And when Yoann first heard the mixed version, he said: "you not only understand my music, you love it". After all these years, couldn't have said any better. This is true. That's the story. That's how it began. For this, and no reason.
